Nicolas Joseph Harmand
NICOLAS JOSEPH HARMAND, born in 1753 in Mirecourt, France, he served a bow making apprenticeship in one of the local workshops, and was also trained as an organ builder. He followed both professions throughout his life and because of this had a low output of bows. Despite this, he produced some fine bows in Pajeot/Adam style. Long frogs with fairly deep throats, sometimes decorated with stars with sixteen points. He was one of the finest craftsmen of his generation and this viola bow is one rare example of his work. The bow is certified by Pierre Guillaume, Bruxelles.
