Francois Caussin

Francois Caussin (1794-1866) was a French maker from the Vosges region, who established himself in Rouvres-la-Chetive in 1815, then moved to Neufchâtau in the 1820s. Some of his instruments are branded “Caussin Luthier Neufchateau Vosges”. Caussin specialised in copying of the great Italian masters, his production being quite abundant and always of good quality. The way in which he antiqued the varnish of his instruments is a unique characteristic of his work and his cellos in particular are highly sought-after.
